I hope this finds you in good spirits, embracing the day-to-day triumphs of your recovery journey. Today, let's switch gears a bit and talk about an aspect of recovery that often doesn't get the attention it deserves: your financial well-being.Whether we like it or not, money plays a critical role in our lives. It affects our stress levels, our options, our freedom, and—let's be honest—our self-esteem. In the 12-step fellowship they say that finance and romance are the leading causes of relapse. So, how can we navigate this often tricky subject, especially when we're already navigating the complex journey of recovery? Here are some steps to consider:Create a Budget: First things first—know where your money is going. Understanding your spending patterns can help you identify opportunities for savings and better financial planning.Tackle Your Debts: If you're weighed down by debt, create a strategy to tackle it. Start with high-interest debts and work your way down. Being debt-free is a liberating feeling that can significantly reduce stress and the risk of relapse.Invest in Yourself: Sometimes, you have to spend to save. Whether it's taking a course to gain new skills or subscribing to a wellness app that keeps you on track, consider these as investments in your new life.Think Long-Term: No matter your current financial situation, planning for the future is crucial. Consider setting up a small, recurring contribution to a retirement or savings account.Build an Emergency Fund: Life is unpredictable. An emergency fund can give you peace of mind and act as a financial safety net, keeping you away from decisions that might compromise your recovery.Managing your finances may seem overwhelming, especially while you're focusing on staying sober. However, remember that financial stability can significantly help your recovery journey. It offers you peace of mind, expands your options, and allows you to build the life you've been fighting so hard to reclaim. So, what small financial step can you take today to make your recovery journey smoother? Remember, I'm here for you, whether you have questions or just want to share your experiences. I’m not a financial planner, but I use the Dave Ramsey “Every Dollar” app. Dave is a well known financial planner.

All the best,
